Taniwha fly rod blanks are carefully constructed tapers from a designer whose early career included designing high performance fly rods for a well-regarded New Zealand brand before establishing his own advanced composites manufacturing facility based in China. The durable TIM range of blanks offer excellent quality fit, finish and performance at a surprisingly reasonable price using IM8 (30 ton) intermediate-modulus, uni-directional carbon fibre pre-pregs wrapped on a helical carbon fibre scrim for improved hoop strength and tracking. At 9' length this is a smooth, medium fast / middle to tip flexing action, light, slim, and blank with a sensitive tip with plenty of feel. It has a classic and forgiving river and stream rod action that lends itself well to upstream dry and nymphing with a #3 or true AFFTA weight #4 line (100-125 gns at 30').
The flexibilty of this versatile blank in improved by including a fifth section, a 12" piece that fits between the 3rd and butt section to extend the rod to 10' #3 with a deeper flex profile suitable for longer reach nymphing applications at short to medium range. No guides are needed on the extension section, so it can be fitted on the bank without re-stringing your rod for an instant change in tactics. It has its own pocket in the rod sock supplied.
